I don't know about you, but as far as I've heard, compared to DreamCast, PlayStation 2 is a superior piece of hardware. More raw processing power should be enough to ensure higher quality of game graphics, right? Wrong. I guess it often depends on whether or not programmers can be bothered to code some essential AA into the game. And I don't mean special Alcoholics Anonymous features. I mean anti aliasing.

Radilgy, one of the newer shooters released on DreamCast, serves as a great example of how important anti aliasing really is. But why should Sony people care.

Right after the title screen loads up you're ready to pop a vein. Photos on the left come from the PlayStation 2 version. Photos on the right were shot with the DreamCast version on screen. No GameCube photos, since there would be no visible difference between those on Nintendo's platform and DC ones.

I guess Sony must have missed the importance of anti aliasing in cel shaded games, but who the hell cares. DreamCast version vanished off the shelves in a week and anyone who wanted to play Radilgy would have to get either the PlayStation 2 or the GameCube version. And since there are more PlayStation 2 users, Sony figured the game will sell anyway.

Sadly, sony "we don't care" politics show. Especially in the shoot 'em ups that are released on both DreamCast and PlayStation 2. Psyvariar being another good example. Not to mention crappy ports of arcade games that only got a PlayStation 2 release when it comes to home platforms.

P.S. - Special thanks go to Amazlet, since he was the one who took the [kind of crap] photos.
